Term One Week Nine Notices

 Week 9

Kia ora Kākano 7 whānau

It was so lovely this week to have everyone back in our class after an interrupted few weeks.

It is week 9 this week and we continue to be impressed with the way the children are working across all Kākano classes.

It has been pleasing to see many children return to school after periods of illness or isolation.  As always, we remind you if your child is displaying any cough or cold symptoms you keep them at home and test for Covid.

In class, we continue to…

  • Keep our space well ventilated with open windows and doors

  • Clean hard surfaces throughout the day

  • Remind children to sanitise as they enter the classroom

Homework

Each day your child brings home an activity to do with your support.  You will find a description of the activity in your child’s Blue Reading Log.  The activity aims to support the classroom learning your child has done that day and should take no longer than 10 minutes.

We thank all the whānau who take the time to share in their child’s learning.  We have noticed a remarkable difference with those children who are regularly completing home activities.

If you have any questions about the work that is being sent home, please contact your classroom teacher.

Swimming

Kākano 7 are swimming this week.  Please bring your togs every day.  The pool is heated so all children will be able to swim.

Gym

Mondays at lunchtime if your child wishes to attend. Girls bring shorts and a t-shirt. Boys can come in their uniform - you can bring shorts and t-shirts if you wish.

Roller Skating

Fridays at lunchtime if your child wishes to attend. Bring your own skates and helmets.

Golden Time

This week we have been reading the book The Giant's Ice Cream.  What better way to end a hard-working week than eating ice cream like the giant in the story.

Term One - Week 8 Notices

 Kia Ora Kākano whānau

Wow, Week 8 already! The term seems like it’s flying by.

We would like to thank parents for their continued support of the school’s Covid protocols. It looks like a wet week so we would again like to remind you that on a wet day, we ask all parents to stay on the outside of the Kākano gates as we have lots of children to get to set areas. Once again, if your child tests positive it is very important to let either Dave, Anne, your child's teacher, or the school office know.  Thanks for all your help with this. Also a  big thumbs up to those children and whanau who are working hard on the Home Learning activities while they are isolating.

Tomorrow we welcome Eduard to kākano 7. We look forward to having you in our class.

Happy St Patrick's Day

To celebrate St Patrick's day we made green cupcakes in green paper cupcake holders with green icing and green marshmallows. We thought it was funny seeing the mixture turn green when we added a little bit of food colouring.   After lunch, we ate our cupcakes and we decided green cupcakes are YUM!

Bread and Water Morning Tea

Today we had bread and water for morning tea.  We weren't allowed food from our lunch boxes until lunchtime.  We have been learning about Caritas which is a Catholic organisation that helps people in different countries.  The people they help may be poor or have lost their houses due to natural disasters or war.  We wanted the children to know what it is like not to be able to have a lunchbox full of yummy food to choose from.  Everyone did well and ate their bread without a fuss.

Term One Week 7 Notices

Week 7

Kia Ora Kākano whānau

Thanks so much for helping the Young Vinnies raise $522.90 on Friday to help the people in Ukraine. It was wonderful to see so many of our children dressed in yellow and blue.

Covid is continuing to make its presence in our school.  We have children and staff who are at home isolating.  It is really important for us to continue to keep up our Covid protocols so we ask that no parents come inside the Kākano classrooms and that you continue to drop your children off at the gates. On a wet day, we ask all parents to stay on the outside of the Kākano gates as we have lots of children to get to set areas to meet parents.  We continue to keep our classrooms well ventilated, surfaces washed down, and have children sanitising.

If your child tests positive it is very important to let either Dave, Anne, your child's teacher, or the school office know.  Thanks for all your help with this.

Caritas - Morning Tea

We have been thinking about other people in different countries across the world who are refugees and have limited access to food, water, and resources. On Thursday for Morning tea we will all be having a slice of bread with some water to think and reflect on those less fortunate people.

Our library day is Friday so don't forget to bring your library books back so you can choose new books. You can choose to keep your library books at home until Friday or if you finish with them your child can bring them back any day during the week and put them in our library book box in the class.

Seeds

We have been planting different types of seeds during our morning play as our focus has been on the Living World.  We planted beans, cress and made grass heads. We made a maze for a potato. We have been watching what happens. We are still waiting for our grass heads to grow and for our potato to get through the maze.

A Very Busy Day

Friday was a very busy day in Kākano 7.  We came to school dressed in mufti to support the people of Ukraine.  We went to the library to change our library books.  We drew some pictures of sunflowers as these are the national flower of Ukraine.  We found time to bounce on the bouncy castle, which was lots of fun.  We used microscopes to look at objects in the classroom and then we went outside to blow bubbles as we had been reading the book 'Bubbles'.
