Term 3 Week 5 Notices

Kia ora whānau, it’s lovely to see the sun out again. Let’s hope it stays that way for most of this week. Our kākano tamariki love being able to play outside and sorely missed that last week.

Cross Country

Weather permitting, this is happening on Friday the 26th of August at 11:10am at school. Children need to wear their school uniform to school and bring either their PE gear OR shorts and t-shirt to change into. Children will also need to bring shoes to run in as we are running on the footpath as well as the field. If you are able to help, please let your child’s classroom teacher know as soon as possible.

Mini Marathon

A reminder that the form and payment need to be handed into the office by Tuesday 23rd August - that’s this coming Tuesday. Late entries will not be accepted.

School Production - Little Red Rocking Hood

All kākano classes have begun to practice their dance for the production. Our dance is to the song - The Purple People Eater. So far the children are doing amazingly well learning their dance. Here are some of the important dates/information you need to know.

Weeks 5-8 - Classes continue to learn their dance routine at school during school time with Mrs. Trask (our production director)

Week 8 - Bring your costumes to school in a named bag and give it to your teacher. Your costume is a plain black t-shirt and plain black pants or shorts. Your costumes will stay at school until after the production is completed. Costumes need to be at school this week as we have full dress rehearsals next week.

Week 9 - Full dress rehearsals at school during school time. This is our practice run for the production next week. They will all happen during school time.

Week 10 - Production week. The production will take place on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th of September in the school hall. On each of these days, there will be two performances - a matinee (during school time) and an evening performance. The production will be about an hour long. Our classes have been split into two groups and your child is expected to be at both performances.

Group A - performs on Tuesday 27th - classes include K1, K3, K5, K7

Group B - performs on Wednesday 28th - classes include K2, K4, K6, K8

Closer to the week of production, tickets will go on sale and times will be announced for the matinee and evening performances. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Play Provocations

Our focus changes for the next two weeks to technology and technological practice. We will be looking at ways to use different tools and designs to improve or change scenarios/situations to create a better outcome.

Operation Christmas Child - Christmas Shoe Boxes

This term we are taking part in Operation Christmas Child. Each class has a shoebox which they will pack with different gifts, prayers, and letters. This will be sent to a child across the world who would not normally receive a gift on Christmas Day. Your child may wish to put a little something special into the box. Look at  “Operation Christmas Child Videos 2022” which has some inspiring videos and ideas.

If you are able to provide a donation that would be amazing. Donations can include - toys, school supplies, hygiene products, clothing, hair accessories, etc.

Items NOT to include are Toothpaste, sweets, lotions, and liquids; used or damaged items; war-related items; seeds, gum, chocolate, or food items; religious or political literature; medicines, aerosol cans, and sharp or fragile items.
